“Honor your father and your mother.”
While most scholarships are given to recognize either financial need or outstanding scholarship, we wanted to do something different, something more in line with the qualities that made my grandmother so special. Every year, we award seven students from the Boston area Orthodox day schools who their principals and educators feel have displayed outstanding kindness, generosity, and modesty. I can think of no better way to honor my grandmother’s legacy than by encouraging others who embody her best qualities, and work to make the lives of their friends and neighbors better.
I have always cherished the memory of my grandmother, Rose Ruderman Z”L, a compassionate, loving woman who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around her. It is important to honor the memory of those who came before us and the legacy they pass on to succeeding generations. In that spirit, we have founded the Rose Ruderman Scholarship Fund. Housed within the Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the fund provides scholarships each year to those who exemplify the virtues that my grandmother personified.
